Superhero Takes On His Biggest Challenge

GLENN McMillan, 17, is proof that even superheroes need education.

The Pembrooke School student is about to start filming a new Power Rangers television series for Disney, starring as one of the five "Mighty Morphin" action heroes.

"But his film schedule - beginning in Auckland in October - and his exam schedule conflicted, with his first exam beginning on November 6.

So, with the agreement of Disney producers, Glenn is one of 18 South Australian students who will this year complete their exams at an overseas location.

"If the producers didn't let me do my exams, I just was going to turn it down," the Year 12 student said yesterday. "I wouldn't have wanted to get this far through school and throw it all away."

Glenn won the part of a Power Ranger after auditions in Adelaide and Sydney but is yet to be informed of which of the three males roles he will play in the television series. Glenn said that with studies dominating his thoughts, he had had little time to get excited about his new career in TV.

"It'll hit me when I start packing my bags." he said. "I'm just trying to focus on my work and much as I can in this last week or so that I'm going to be at school.

"Because if my acting career doesn't work out, I'll be able to fall back on something - I'll have school behind me."

He will sit four SAGE exams, English studies, German, musicianship, and business math's, in Auckland.

The Brazil-born student had been involved in TV and theater for the past seven years, also starring in Sally Marshall Is Not An Alien with the SA Film Corporation and Chuck Finn with Channel 7.

Glenn flies out on September 30.
